Memorial Service marking 35th Anniversary of Invasion in Cyprus
H.E. Archbishop Demetrios of America Officiated at the Memorial Service for Archbishop Makarios of Cyprus and for those who fell in the 1974 Turkish Invasion in Cyprus. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios called for Unity and hard work to fight for the rights of the Cypriot People and to free Cyprus soon from those who illegally occupy the island and not respecting the rule of law. The members of the Cyprus Federation of America and PSEKA organizations filled St. Catherines Greek Orthodox Church in Astoria to remember and co-celebrate with Archbishop Demetrios. 35 Years passed since the invasion said Newly Elected President of AHEPA Nikos Karakostas whos is a Cypriot American from Kyrenia. The Consul Generals of Greece Aghi Balta and Cyprus Andreas Panagiotou made their remarks on the 35th Anniversary of the Occupation and Invasion of the Island of Cyprus by the Turkish Military.
